Born in New York but raised in the warm sunshine of Southern California, Evelyn Huang’s love affair with jewelry began at a very young age: growing up in her father’s fine jewelry shop, Evelyn was fascinated by the beautiful gems and diamonds he carried. As a teenager, summer and winter vacations were spent running errands and helping out with the business, which developed in her a strong sense of customer care and service and also cultivated her natural instincts for discerning quality and beauty.
As a young adult, Evelyn left the family business to earn a degree in Economics at the University of California at Irvine. Upon graduation, she worked in various fields exploring the opportunities that awaited her but, jewelry was never far from her heart. After living in Asia for a few years, immersing herself in Chinese culture and developing her own unique style, she returned to Los Angeles and joined her father’s business as a full time associate. At the same time, she enrolled herself in the Gemological Institute of America’s Graduate Gemologist distance program. Driven and determined, she earned her G.G. diploma in just a single year and left her father’s business to work for DeBeers Diamond Jewelers on L.A.’s famous Rodeo Drive. Working in Beverly Hills built upon her well-developed foundation, earning respect from her peers while winning over clients with her open and honest attitude. Although satisfying, the work never provided a creative outlet for her ideas. So taking what she learned from the experience, she left high-end retail and launched evelynH. Jewelry Inc. in the fall of 2006.
Only a few months later, Evelyn’s talent was recognized when her “Infinity” suite of bridal ring designs placed 3rd in the 2007 Diva Awards competition and her “Cometes Cuff” design placed 1st in the bracelet category for the North American Division of the Tahitian Pearl Trophy. These two accolades turned out to be just the beginning of a long list of industry design awards for the gifted artist but, even with all this recognition of her talents, Evelyn has always been interested in bettering herself for the benefit of her clients and so enrolled in and graduated from the Jewelry Design program at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She credits the school with opening her eyes to cutting edge fashion, color, and textures and how these elements can be used to enhance her work while further honing her artistic ideas. Evelyn continues to challenge herself creatively by entering design competitions and her latest accomplishments include winning the Palladium Prestige Award for Menswear in the 2012 AGTA Spectrum Awards, being a Finalist in the 2013 Palladium Alliance International Design Competition, and placing 3rd in the Classical Category of the 2015 AGTA Spectrum Awards.
The inspiration behind each evelynH. design is a combination of the many facets and experiences of Evelyn’s life, drawing from the past and looking towards the future, a place where East meets West. What started as a childhood love affair has blossomed into a passion that evelynH. is now sharing with the world.
